Our Mission Statement:

Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) provides support and advocacy for adults and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Nevada. AFAN works to reduce HIV infection through prevention education to eliminate fear, prejudice and the stigma associated with the disease.

AFAN is committed to a system that nurtures personal growth and dignity of persons served, which is emphasized during orientation, ongoing staff trainings and the culture of our organization.

Ryan White Part A

Our Medical Case Managers and clients work together to develop a comprehensive service plan specific to each client’s unique circumstances. Service plans are intended to address the client as a whole, including medical and medication needs, mental health, finances, housing stability, support system, medical transportation and other areas as determined. Since an important aspect of our core mission is to reduce the current rate of infection in our community, our well-trained HIV Prevention Specialists conduct educational seminars and outreach efforts targeting high-risk groups. services_home_200x125AFAN is the only organization in Southern Nevada to offer food and nutritional services specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of persons infected with HIV/AIDS. Depending on eligibility, AFAN’s registered dietitian (RD) develops a plan specifically tailored to each individual’s unique needs. It teaches program participants how to make healthy dietary choices, how to use the family food budget correctly and make palatable foods the family will actually eat. Read more…
services_home_200x125 Our therapists provide outpatient therapy services to both infected and affected individuals, couples, and families. Our therapists are trained to work with a wide variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, mood and adjustment disorders. Because our services are housed at AFAN, our therapists are able to provide an environment that is open and welcoming to the unique needs of people living with HIV and AIDS.
services_home_200x125 Free HIV Testing Now Available at the AFAN Offices: 1120 Almond Tree Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89104
Specially trained staff will administer the tests in a private and confidential setting through the same technology the health district uses, an HIV rapid screening test using a finger prick blood sample, with results in less than 20 minutes. Testing is available Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary and anyone over the age of 13 is welcome to be tested. Staff is available to provide assistance in English and Spanish and AFAN’s case managers can provide subsequent counseling and other support services.

  • AFAN has approximately 1,100 registered clients and assists with guidance to many more.
  • AFAN has two of the most significant fundraising events for AIDS in Nevada; AIDS Walk Las Vegas and the Black & White Party.
  • AFAN has been recognized by the U.S. Congress, Nevada’s Governor, and the Nevada State Assembly for its continued efforts and advocacy in the HIV/AIDS community and for educating the population about this vitally important work.
